I used to have a pretty sweet collection of "in the box" toy cars not too long ago. Dinky cars is what I grew up calling them. As kids, my brother and I would play the paint off these things, make roads with popsicle sticks, etc. As I got older they became more of a hobby to collect and admire, a way to own all the cars that I loved, without causing my bank account to go all Higgs Boson on me.
Then my little man was born, and like father like son he took an interest in anything that had wheels. And so my collection of "mint in the box" dinkies slowly but surely became OUR collection of "let's see what happens when these two collide at break neck speed" dinkies. But I'm okay with it. It's letting go. It's living life the way it was meant to be lived. Enjoying what we have while we have it, and not looking back. Scratch the paint! Get dirty! Live it up! Let your pristine "whatever it is" get dirty and scratched. Use it for what it's meant to be used for. Try it sometime, have a laugh, and smile when you become one of the few who know.
